POWER VS. POVERTY
FOLLOWING THE MONEY TO REVEAL AMERICA'S MASS INCARCERATION SCHEME
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Following the money to reveal the scheme of mass incarceration, I wrote Power vs. Poverty to be used as a tool to fight back against the mass injustice of a system that has hidden behind the word Justice far too long. Instead of justice and corrections, this system has massively incarcerated, oppressed and consumed many generations of people that look like me. In today's America, 1 and every 3 black boys born can expect to go to prison in his lifetime. Power vs. Poverty is my true, first hand account of being a 18 year old defendant in poverty, facing capitol charges up against an outdated, over budgeting, and underperforming criminal justice system that politicians/ lobbyists and businessman has used to scam the American tax payers out of 80+ Billion dollars a year on the idea of Corrections. In today's information age, statistics is one thing, but Power vs. Poverty is more than just analytics and buzz words, its a vivid description of mass incarceration not from the classroom perspective but actually from inside the belly of the beast, giving readers a birds eye view of the mess of mass incarceration.

Power vs Poverty is an excellent book that reveal the failures in the Criminal Justice System and the inhumane turmoil that inmates struggle through to survive despite extreme adverse conditions.
Rivers Peoples vividly details his story and many of the challenges of many other inmates nationwide. His tenacity and strength to withstand this evil environment is a testament to his integrity, resilience, intelligence and fortitude, he overcomes daily with the spiritual and physical support of his family and significant others.
I was very impressed with his focus to remain professional yet give clarity on every setback and triumph. I recommend this book for all audiences worldwide to elevate awareness of a corrupt system without an authentic check and balance for quality assurance in many professions multiple punishments are unacceptable but Rivera has endured no limits on undue egregious consequences for simply being at the wrong place at the wrong time. It is compelling and epidemic circumstances world-wide

Peer Review:
William Green:
Rivera Peoples Power vs. Poverty is an eye-opener that reveals the scheme of mass incarceration. This book exposes the secrets of the belly of the beast that have been attempted to hide from the society. Power vs. poverty shows that practicing equity helps address imbalance social systems. However, Justice can take equity one step further by changing societal systems in order to achieve sustainable and equitable access for future generations in long term. I personally really enjoyed chapter 2 "One of the masses." Because Rivera and I were housed in the same housing unit at several of the same facilities, we witnessed many of the same atrocities. If I could change anything about meeting Rivera, I'd change the fact that I met him in the Davidson County jail, but I love the fact that he developed so well. We were young and poorly educated juveniles, I have witnessed Rivera better himself in all angles from receiving degrees to humbling his self and developing into a great father, trustworthy friend, and asset to our community. I recommend you to read this book and let the light shine upon those wrongfully impacted by our 80+ Billion dollar a year justice system. This book narrates my everyday reality and struggles with mass incarceration and can be used as a deterrent for our next generation . This book is a great non-fiction read.
